With all the attention that WordPress gets, there are other content management systems out there that deserve more write ups, attention and recognition. As a designer, I’ve had the opportunity to work on both Joomla and WordPress and the one advantage that WordPress does have over Joomla is its learning curve is much faster and also much easier to use especially coming from a designers stand point of view.
Joomla is a much different CMS with the way is set up, structured and definitely a much stepper learning curve. Using Joomla requires you to have a much better grasp of coding and it is simply a challenge to learn if your knowledge is limited. It’s no wonder that many choose to use WordPress as their choice of CMS.
However, with all that said, Joomla is a very powerful CMS and there are many who use Joomla and swear by it, again for me it all depends on the project and of course the stakeholders and their comfort level with CMS. Joomla has a very active community of developers and there is not a shortage of support.
I’ve put together a showcase of beautiful responsive Joomla theme websites for ideas and inspiration and perhaps even learn more about Joomla.
